Dog Mauls Eight Day Old Infant…Child Dies From Injuries…Dog Destroyed

The dog that mauled and killed an eight day old baby in Lee County, Virginia has been destroyed. Officers received a call just before noon on Wednesday, that a family pet had attacked the infant. The baby was taken to the Lonesome Pine Hospital for an initial evaluation, then to Holston Valley and finally to the UT Medical Center where the child died from injuries sustained to the upper portion of the body. The canine was a Wolf-mix. The case is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Social Services.
