Sullivan Inmate Captured After Slipping Away While Deputy Sleeps
An inmate who escaped from a hospital early Saturday morning after a deputy who was watching him fell asleep, has been apprehended and is back in custody. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received the call just before seven o’clock Saturday morning, stating Donovan Austin, who was receiving treatment at Bristol Regional Medical Center, had slipped away in the deputies own car while he was asleep inside the hospital. Police caught Austin a short time later on Interstate 81 at the airport interchange.Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson fired Corrections Officer Buck Owens for falling asleep on the job.
