Three Lightning Related Deaths in Tennessee Confirmed in 2018
This year Tennessee has had more deaths by lightning than in the last 10 years combined.
Halfway through this year, three people have died as a result of lightning strikes, all from doing activity while outside.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has tips that can keep you and your family safe in the event of an approaching storm. One tip is if you are outside and hear thunder, lightning may be in your area and the best safety precaution is to move indoors or seek the nearest shelter. If no shelter is available, crouch low and keep as much of your body off the ground as possible.
