Hawkins County School Board Bans Corporal Punishment
The Hawkins County School Board has banned corporal punishment within the school system. But, now the debate turns to whether a corporal punishment policy is even needed now that paddling has been banned. One board member says if the policy is eliminated, it then defers back to state law, which allows for corporal punishment. Others say if the board has banned paddling then a policy isnt needed at all. Hawkins County now joins, eight other school systems in Northeast Tennessee that have banned corporal punishment in their school systems.
