Carter County Authorities Searching For Alleged Missing Child In Watauga River

An extensive search was conducted Thursday evening in and around Watauga River in Elizabethton after a report that a young girl had been swept away in the rain swollen waters. According to Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford, the call came in around six pm Thursday. The child was described as a three year old girl with blonde hair. Sheriff Lunceford says someone claimed they tried to pull the child out of the water but ended up pulling the child’s back pack off instead. Lunceford also says so far no parents have come forward claiming their child is missing. Several agencies joined in the search including Wings Air Rescue.
