Recycling Services Coming to End in Abingdon
The Town of Abingdon, Virginia has announced it will discontinue it’s curbside recycling services at the end of the month.
The last week the program will run through is that of June 24-28. There will be no changes to residents waste collection bill.
A mutual agreement between Waste Management and the town to discontinue services was agreed upon due to the declining market for recyclable materials.
Abingdon was contracted with Tri-Cities Waste Paper to handle the materials in towns recycling bins. This January they refused the town to unload any materials and the fate of the initiative has been sealed since that point.
Until an alternative source to deposit materials is identified, recycling bins will not be out for use.
