Suspect Knocks Victim Out In Failed Robbery Attempt

A Johnson City man is recovering after being knocked unconscious during a robbery attempt and the suspect is now in custody. Johnson City Police arrested 61 year old Billy Ray Riley of University Parkway and charged him with attempted especially aggravated robbery. Riley is accused of striking the victim in the head with a blunt object, on Delaware Street,knocking the victim out. Riley then attempted to take the victim’s wallet and cash but was quickly apprehended. Riley is being held on a 50 thousand dollar bond and is set for arraignment Friday morning in Washington County, Tennessee General Sessions Court.
