Remote Area Medical ends annual Wise County clinics
Remote Area Medical announced Friday that they will end their annual visits to Wise County. The non-profit agency began coming to the Coalfields in 1999, treating thousands of patients who had no health insurance coverage. CEO Jeff Eastman said in a statement that they plan on focusing on other underserved areas of the US and that groups like the Health Wagon based in Clintwood are filling in the coverage gaps. RAM still has clinics scheduled in Lee County and in Gray, Tennessee later this year.
