UPDATE: Bankrupt Blackjewel coal gets prospective bidder in Contura Energy

A day after Blackjewel Coal announced eight prospective buyers had voiced interest in acquiring properties from the now-bankrupt company, Bristol Tennessee-based Contura Energy has filed papers in West Virginia federal court to try and become the prime bidder for select Blackjewel operations. The documents specifically name two operations in West Virginia and Wyoming– two tracts that Contura originally sold to Blackjewel in December 2017. A Contura statement said the company could spend upwards of $20 million on the deal.
