Deputy Released From Hospital, Suspect Receiving Medical Attention After Officer Involved Shooting
A Wythe County Deputy was shot in the holster and then returned fire striking a suspect during an officer involved shooting. A deputy responded to the 500 block of Chinquapin Avenue and encountered a suspect and a stolen vehicle. The deputy and the suspect, William Cody Grimes became involved in a struggle, when Grimes seized the deputy’s handgun and fired a shot striking the deputy in the holster. The deputy made it back to his patrol vehicle and retrieved his patrol rifle and returned fire striking Grimes several times. Grimes is receiving medical treatment and the deputy has now been released from the hospital. Grimes is charged with Attempted Capital Murder, Use of A firearm in the Commission of a Felony and Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.
