Rise in flu causing Ballad Health to take action at Niswonger Children’s Hospital

With flu levels spiking in the region over the last few weeks, Ballad Health has set up a separate emergency room entrance and triage area for children suffering from flu like symptoms at Niswonger Children’s Hospital.

The health care organization made the announcement late Tuesday night of the temporary policies taking effect as Ballad says just last week, it was one of the highest volume weeks of flu cases they’ve seen in several years.

Ballad recently enforced visitation restrictions at all facilities for groups and visitors under the age of 18 in an attempt to curb the spread of the flu, which they say has impacted some of its staff.
