Investigators search for vandals that desecrated Appalachia cemetery

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the suspects who desecrated a family graveyard located in Appalachia.

Sheriff Grant Kilgore told us seven headstones and two smaller markers inside the Kilbourne Cemetery received significant damage from vandals. The burial site is located just off Business Route 23 near the Kent Junction community and the department was notified of the damages late Wednesday.

Kilgore also noted the roadway to the site is unmarked and isolated. He also said that repairs to the markers will cost thousands of dollars.
