308 Workers Out Of Job When Domtar Papermill Closes In October
It’s now official, Kingpsort’s, Domtar Paper Mill is closing its doors and 308 workers will be losing their jobs this October. The papermill temporarily shut down in April due to market conditions associated with COVID-19. Plans were to reopen the mill in August, but now company officials have filed a WARN notice with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development indicating it will permanently close operations on October 8. Last week, Domtar announced plans to repurpose the mill in an effort to produce a different type of paper than what the mill was producing before the announced closure. The company plans to reopen the mill in 2023 and hopes to employee 150-160 workers when it begins production.
