One Person Dead…Another Injured In Two Vehicle Head On Crash In Wise County

One person is dead and another seriously injured in a two vehicle crash on U.S. Route 23 in Wise County. 62 year old Sharon Dorton of Big Stone Gap was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe southbound when a 60 year old woman driving a 1998 Ford Explorer was traveling north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 23 at mile marker 39 and struck Dorton’s Santa Fe head on. Dorton was transported to a local hospital where she was declared deceased. The driver of the other Explorer received serious but non life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending according to Virginia State Police.
