If Pot Passes In Virginia, Lawmaker Wants Taxes Used To Fund Reparations

If Virginia lawmakers approve recreational use of marijuana in next year’s General Assembly, one delegate wants the revenue collected from pot taxes to go for reparations for black and Indigenous Virginians. Delegate Lee Carter says every penny of tax revenue from legalized marijuana should go to reparations. Carter sponsored legislation in 2019 and 2020 to legalize pot in the Commonwealth but was voted down in subcommittees. Canter says he is confident legalization is on the horizon.
