VA US Senators Kaine, Warner attach name to federal minimum wage increase bill

VA US Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner are apart of a group to introduce a bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.

The “Raise the Wage Act of 2021” has partisan support among Democrats and seeks to bump wages up from its current level of $7.25 to $15 by 2025. Warner and Kaine in a news release cited a study by the Commonwealth Institute that shows if the measure is signed into law, more than one million Commonwealth residents would have their wages raised.

At the state level, last year Virginia lawmakers approved a gradual minimum wage increase to $15.00 per hour that is expected to take effect by 2026, including an increase this May to $9.50 per hour.
