Holston advances in VHSL playoffs after J.I. Burton reports COVID case within program

The Holston Cavaliers have captured the Region D football championship after their opponent had to withdraw from the VHSL playoffs.

Officials with J.I. Burton High School in Norton reported a person within the Black Raiders’ program tested positive for the coronavirus, ending their season because of the required quarantine period. That regional final was scheduled for Friday.

The Washington County school will now await the winner of the Region C title game and play in next week’s VHSL state semifinal in the Class 1 division.
