Guns To Teachers Bill Killed in Committee Vote
A bill that would have allowed certain teachers inside of public schools to carry guns has been killed in a committee vote. The legislation made it past the House Civil Justice Committee in March and some saw it as a cost effective approach to school safety due to lack of funds to hire more school resource officers. A school safety act proposed by Rep. Micah Van Huss of Jonesborough continues to advance through committee. The law would allow off-duty polce officers and other law enforcement to provide for school systems.
