Hemp Industry in Northeast Tennessee Hopes to Expand
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture is hoping to expand the hemp industry within the state. In Northeast Tennessee alone there are 25 licensed hemp growers. A federal law established in the recent past, granted licenses to producers of hemp to use for research purposes. Hemp is an incredibly versatile plant with thousands of practical applications, such as oils that relieve stress and pain, to use of the stem to create fibers that are able to be turned into clothing or rope. Some believe that the extracts from the plant could even aid in the opioid epidemic If you’re interested in getting involved in the industry the state has extended the application period to June 1st.
