Southwest Virginia Man Charged With Attempted Capital Murder, In Exchange Of Gunfire With Deputies
A Gate City, Virginia man who pointed and fired at two Scott County deputies and then was shot and wounded by those officers has now been charged with attempted capital murder. 49 year old Roy Michael Barnett was shot by deputies Tuesday night in a home on Daniel Boone Road after deputies attempted to serve an emergency custody order for a mental evaluation on Barnett. As officers approached the home, Barnett pointed a gun at the door and fired at the two deputies. The deputies returned fire and striking and wounding Barnett with non life threatening injuries. Barnett underwent surgery at a Kinsport hospital. The officers were not injured and have been cleared to return to duty.
