Improvements Coming To Interstate 81…Gas Hike And Registration Fees Planned For Funding

Improvements are coming to Interstate 81, but not without some costs associated with it. Virginia lawmakers on Wednesday approved funding for I-81 improvements, by approving a two percent higher gas tax rate and an increase in truck registration fees. The funding does not include the use of a toll system. Governor Northam says the improvements will help reduce delays and eliminate 450 crashes each year. The plan calls for an increase in gas taxes along the I-81 corridor.
