BlueCross Blue Shield of TN to cover members in-network COVID-19 treatments

BlueCross BlueShield of TN says they will cover all in-network COVID-19 treatment costs for members.

“As part of our mission, our first priority is the health of our members and the communities we serve,” said JD Hickey, M.D., president and CEO. “And since the COVID-19 pandemic is unlike anything our members have faced in recent memory, we want to make sure we remove any barriers to receiving the care they need.”

The health insurance company announced Thursday that any member that receives a COVID-19 diagnosis will have to pay no out of pocket costs, including hospitalizations, as long as they receive testing and treatment given by an in-network provider. Those eligible include members in fully insured group, individual, Medicare Advantage, and BlueCare Tennessee plans.

BlueCross is also encouraging self-funded employers to waive COVID-19 treatment costs for their employees.
