Construction of $12M sports center in Abingdon reaches halfway point

The construction of a $12 million sports complex in the town of Abingdon has reached the halfway point.

A report from city leaders says several tasks are already complete including the installation of electrical and digital wiring, concrete being poured for the facility’s concession and press box area, and grading work for the multi-use fields, access road, and walking trail.

The park is located adjacent to The Meadows retail complex off Interstate 81 in the Exit 17 area. Abingdon officials plan to open the sports center in Spring 2022.
