Marion, Virginia apartment building evacuated to inspect suspicious package

One segment of a Smyth County, Virginia apartment complex was evacuated as a precaution as safety personnel examined a suspicious package on its grounds.

A statement from the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office said they were executing a search warrant at an apartment located in the 1700 block of Marion Manor Road when the package was discovered.

A spokesperson for the town of Marion said there is no current danger to the public.

The report said further information would be released later in the day following the investigation by the sheriff’s office.
