Suspect in custody following reports of domestic fight and shooting in Abingdon

A suspect is in custody following reports of a shooting during a domestic fight on Tuesday in Abingdon.

According to a statement from the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office, 67-year-old Dewey Johnson faces charges of strangulation, attempted malicious wounding, shooting at a law enforcement officer and two weapon charges.

The incident off Denton Valley Road was described as a violent physical assault by the victim. Johnson is being held without bond.
