Fire department treasurer fired, indicted by grand jury

The former treasurer of the Lakeview Fire Department in Hawkins County has been indicted by a grand jury following an investigation by the State Comptroller’s Office.

Officers reported Peggy Long after they found suspicious activity on their financial books. The report said Long wrote seven checks from the department then put the money in her personal account totaling over $26,000.

Long, who was fired by the agency in June, faces one count of theft of property. The report also said that Long has already repaid the funding to fire department officials.
