TDHHS announces work requirements for SNAP eligibility

The Tennessee Department of Human Services just announced updates to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program work requirements for Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents after the passage of HR 1 back in July. The new rules will require those customers to keep to specific work requirements to maintain their SNAP eligibility. These requirements apply to adults aged 18 to 65 who do not have a disability and do not live with children under 14. Under the updated guidelines, affected customers may only receive SNAP benefits for three months within a three-year period unless they work, volunteer, or participate in a job training program for at least 20 hours a week, or 80 hours a month, with some specific exceptions. The Tennessee Department of Human Services says those who believe they are exempt from the work requirements need to upload proof by October 31st.
