Increased budget approved for Washington Co. Schools security upgrades

The Washington County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to increase funding for school security by approving $2 million of next year’s budget for security upgrades. That money will allow Washington County Schools to complete the second phase of its security improvement plans. Security vestibules at the entrances of the two high schools in the county are already in place, and according to Washington County Schools Superintendent Jerry Boyd, the additional funds allow the same measures to be added to the K-8 buildings as well. Boyd emphasized that security measures are ever-changing and that they’re always looking at ways to keep students safe and now that the funds have been approved, they’re working to get the vestibules installed as soon as possible.
