Big South basketball championships return to JC in March

The Big South basketball championships are coming back to Johnson City this March. According to Visit Johnson City executive director Brenda Whitson, “The numbers for Big South outpaced Nascar.” Whitson said the 2025 championship was the largest event Johnson City has ever hosted, resulting in $6 million in visitor spending and thousands of hotel bookings. Visit Johnson City tracked 77 examples of national media coverage last year, equaling nearly $300,000 in ads if it had been purchased. Talks are set to begin soon about keeping the event here for a third year.
