Greeneville approves staining sloped walks on depot street
The Greeneville City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to stain the sloped sidewalks along Depot Street as a safety measure. City leaders say the city’s plan is to stain the sloped portions of the sidewalks along the entirety of Depot Street, rather than install railings as initially planned. Town officials had been looking for ways to identify the sloped parts of the sidewalk, and they received negative feedback from the community regarding the plan to use rails. That led to the decision to stain the sidewalks instead. The new sidewalk staining plan is estimated to cost around $30,000, which is about $5,000 less than the plan for railings.
