HAAP among nine installations named as potential micro reactor sites

The Holston Army Ammunition Plant is among nine installations named as potential sites for the initial deployment of nuclear microreactor power plants at Army facilities. The Army just released a shortlist of potential sites for initial deployment as it moves forward with its Janus Program, which involves building next-generation microreactors “to deliver secure, resilient, and reliable energy to support national defense installations and critical missions.” The Army said that while the final number and location of the microreactors will be determined as part of the acquisition process, it aims to maximize the number of sites “based on technical feasibility, site suitability, and available resources.” The Holston Army Ammunition Plant, which manufactures multiple explosives for the military, is owned by the government but operated by contractor BAE Systems.
