Carter County Landfill update: Fire operations conclude, landfill remains closed

Fire operations at the Carter County Landfill have ended. As of Wednesday, crews remain on site to monitor and conduct material movement. The latest update from the mayors office, says the landfill is still closed until further notice. Carter County residents can still use the convenience centers at 102 Old Rock Quarry Road in Roan Mountain and at 3682 U.S. 321 in Butler. Both convenience centers are open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and accept only bagged household waste.
