UVA Wise’s Oxbow Center to receive coveted nuclear reactor training hub
One of only two nuclear control room simulators on the East Coast will be constructed in St. Paul.
Governor Youngkin announced $275,000 from the state’s Clean Energy Innovation Bank will go to the University of Virginia’s College at Wise to construct the NuScale E2 Center at the Oxbow Center.
The partnership to train an equipped workforce was mentioned by Youngkin in July when Department of Energy officials announced one of the nation’s most advanced nuclear reactors would be built in SW Virginia. The installation of and the training with the simulator will begin in January.
Future plans call for the center to be built in Wise County. This training project will become part of UVA Wise’s curriculum once components are in place.
