Federally Qualified Health Centers in VA file lawsuit against the state
Fifteen Federally Qualified Health Centers in the Commonwealth, including Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems, have filed a lawsuit against the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services. These centers receive a majority of their funding through federal grants and Medicaid reimbursements. The 41-page lawsuit alleges the agency that oversees Virginia’s Medicaid program, for 25 years, has been breaking federal law with low Medicaid reimbursements. According to the suit, the state has paid less than the average cost per visit for treating Medicaid patients.
