The Washington County TN Planning Commission votes down BWXT expansion

Hundreds of residents showed up to speak out against BWXT’s proposed rezoning in Jonesborough. Public comment lasted two hours with many residents against the expansion. BWXT requested to rezone land they already own, to build two, high-purity depleted uranium processing facilities. If expanded, BWXT could bring 175 jobs to Jonesborough. The planning commission voted 4-2 Tuesday night to deny BWXT’s rezoning request. The county commission will have the final vote January 26.
