TDCS reveal concept for it’s Welcome and Wellness Places for youth.
The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services revealed the concept images of its future Welcome and Wellness Places for youth, and one is slated for Jonesborough. It’s part of the department’s $421 million Real Estate Initiative to build trauma-responsive, purpose-built spaces for youth entering state care. Groundbreaking and construction are expected to begin this year. Welcome Places will be designed to serve up to 16 youth immediately after they enter state care and provide short-term stabilization until permanent plans are created. According to the release, the facilities are designed to improve safety, stability, and outcomes for youth, and each will feature materials, colors, and architectural features that will be safe, calming, and non-institutional.
