Lawmaker sponsors legislation that could lead to new state park around Mendota Trail
Virginia Delegate Israel O’Quinn is sponsoring legislation to fund a feasibility study for a potential park in Washington County, Virginia around the Mendota Trail. The park would sit on 400 plus acres that is expected to be owned by the county within the next month. The Clinch River State Park, near St. Paul, was created in 2016, the most recent addition of a state park in Southwest Virginia. The park is in Phase 1 of development but still offers eight miles of hiking trails, a picnic shelter, fishing and boating access points along with educational programming.
