Federal suspect in custody after ramming Ashe County deputy’s vehicle

A wanted federal suspect slammed his truck into a patrol cruiser and was taken into custody when he was boxed in by other officers, according to authorities in Ashe County, North Carolina.

The police report Jason Michael Benfield, 46, faces a list of charges, including assault on an officer, related to the pursuit that reached speeds of up to 120 miles per hour and saw Benfield weave in and out of traffic and through traffic lights. A judge ordered Benfield to be held without bond.
