A graphic package from the past begins a new tourism trend in Tennessee
For the first time since 1995, new welcome signs will be installed along the interstate system in Tennessee with Interstate 26 Erwin becoming one of the first locations to sport the new vision.
The project is part of a $5 million allocation earmarked by the General Assembly to highlight the scenic beauty of state features using a graphics package that harkens back to the vintage postcards of yesteryear. Governor Bill Lee was in Unicoi County Monday to unveil the signage constructed with modular panels that allows transportation officials to switch out designs without building new structures.
They will also be installed in other welcome centers to provide a safer spot for visitors to take a picture of their entry into the Volunteer State.
