Bare bones spending plan passed by Russell County supervisors
The Board of Supervisors in Russell County approved a bare bones budget–resulting in all capital projects for the locality including public schools cancelled for the coming fiscal year.
The spending plan also preserves salaries for teaching staff who received notice of potential job cuts over the weekend while salary increases across the board were scrapped for next year.
County Administrator Lonzo Lester said compromises were reached but the Spanberger administration was not generous with county allocations. The General Assembly approved the state budget Monday, three months after they adjourned.
“…From the previous administrations, they were generous to the rural areas in Southwest Virginia. This administration was not,” Lester said.
