Former UVA Wise running back commit charged with rape
A standout running back from Chattanooga who committed to play football beginning this fall at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise has been arrested and charged with rape.
JaMychal Buckner has already made his first court appearance in Marion County and has a bond hearing scheduled for Wednesday. Buckner was named the MVP of the 2025 Blue Cross Bowl following South Pittsburg High’s 42-14 victory in the TSSAA Class 1A championship last December.
A published report said UVA Wise officials told media members that Buckner had not enrolled at the Wise County school. Several online football recruiting channels said Buckner had voiced his intent to play for the Cavaliers earlier this year and had reportedly received another scholarship offer from Tusculum University.
