Fake cop pulls over real Johnson City cop, goes to jail
A Jonesborough man is charged with criminal impersonation after his suped-up SUV equipped with blue lights and siren tried to make a traffic stop.
John Thompson’s, 22, game of dress up ended when the driver of the vehicle he pulled over stepped out—it was an officer with the Johnson City Police Department.
Thompson quickly left the scene when the officer asked for ID but eventually surrendered when he parked his SUV in front of the Washington County Jail. He’s also charged with improper passing and police equipment-related charges.
Investigators are also asking any potential victims stopped by Thompson to report their case.
