Remains found during debris removal on Jackson Island believed to be last missing Helene victim

Washington County, Tennessee, authorities are investigating after human remains were found in the Jackson Island area of the Nolichucky River Saturday. Officials believe the remains are that of a victim of Helene flooding. The remains were sent to the William Jenkins Forensics Center at ETSU. Crews contracted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently began working to clear debris on the island, which is owned by the U.S. Forest Service. The project hoped to find the body of Nancy Tucker, the person from Washington County still missing after Hurricane Helene.
