Carter County man pleads guilty to animal cruelty
A Carter County man pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty after the Carter County Animal Shelter took 13 dogs into custody following a house fire in June. The dogs had injuries and health problems, including facial trauma, burns, bite wounds, suspected shock and flea infestations. One dog had to be euthanized. Other charges against Wendell Hodge were dismissed. He was sentenced to two days in jail, with credit for time served, and fined $25 for each count plus court costs. He must also serve one year of probation. A judge ordered Hodge not to have animals in his home while he is on probation.
