Federal oversight leaders for coal industry send new recommendations to fight COVID

The Mine Safety and Health Administration on Wednesday announced stronger guidelines that coal companies must follow to protect their workers from the coronavirus.
Those steps include conducting risk assessments at the facility, adopting policies that will help protect miners at most risk to the virus, and establish a confidential system that will allow workers to voice COVID concerns.
United Mine Workers President Cecil Roberts has called on federal oversight boards to encourage coal companies to do more to protect miners during the pandemic because of close working quarters underground.
