Tennessee unemployment rate drops to 5.1% in the first month of 2021

Tennessee economic officials say the state appears to be trending in the right direction as unemployment rates decreased to start 2021 off.
Figures from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development show Tennessee recorded a jobless rate of 5.1% in January, slightly below the December figure of 5.6%, and is just over 1% higher than the January 2020 unemployment rate of 3.7%.
Job sectors that were most affected during the measuring period were occupations in leisure/hospitality.
As Tennessee’s economy recovers from the pandemic, from April 2020 to now, the state has recorded decreases in the unemployment rate six out of the last nine months.
