District Attorney: State-capped bonds for domestic suspects not protecting community

District Attorney Steve Finney has directed the heads of city and county police and ETSU public safety to obtain the newest criminal history files on domestic suspects to address repeat offenders and the ongoing problem of partners being abused.

Finney wants the suspects in front of a General Sessions Court judge for possible higher bond and skip contacting night clerks to determine their bond.

Finney’s statement said caps on amounts due to Tennessee law that only allows misdemeanor bonds for the night clerk are not appropriate and are not protecting the victims and community.
