White Pine teacher jailed for assault on a 4-year-old student

A teacher at White Pine School has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged assault involving a pre-K student.

A report from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Renee West Murphy, 60, of Morristown was taken into custody Thursday after staff members reported her to the school’s student resource officer.

The preliminary information released by police said the student in the case is 4-years-old.

Murphy is charged with one count of assault and child abuse, the report said. She has posted bond and was released from the Jefferson County Detention Center.
