Corrections officials confirm MS-13 members attacked officers at Wallens Ridge State Prison

Three corrections officers were stabbed in a coordinated attack inside Wallens Ridge State Prison by inmates that the Virginia Department of Corrections confirmed are members of the criminal gang MS-13.
Two of those officers remain hospitalized in stable condition while three others were treated at a hospital then released. Those that remain hospitalized were stabbed and the incident was premeditated, the report said.
The report from corrections officials said the five MS-13 members were in the US illegally and came to the states from El Salvador.
Another inmate who took part in the attack was a member of Sureno 13, according to the DOC. All of the prisoners were placed at Wallens Ridge for violent crimes including murder and rape.
Virginia DOC director Chad Dotson said the gang members in Big Stone shouldn’t even be in the country and praised the bravery shown by the workers in the attack.
“Every single day, our officers put their lives on the line to ensure public safety for the more than 8.8 million people across the Commonwealth,” Dotson said in a prepared statement.
This attack is an example of the dangers they face when they show up to work every day. Our officers are heroes, and I commend the team at Wallens Ridge for their swift response.”
