Wise County’s top attorney to pursue charges against Wallens Ridge inmates

Wise County Commonwealth’s Attorney Brett Hall released a statement confirming charges will be filed against five inmates of Wallens Ridge State Prison accused of a planned attack on corrections officers with two of them hospitalized with injuries.

Hall said he cannot report a specific timeline for the charges being filed due to the ongoing investigation into the May 2nd incident by state and federal authorities. The attorney also said his comments have to be limited on the Wallens Ridge issue because those cases are still being examined.

The Department of Corrections confirmed the inmates involved were illegal immigrants from El Salvador and members of the MS-13 gang who were convicted of murder and rape in the US.
